Yash is a Sanskrit word which means - success, splendor, majesty, luxury, eminence and fame.
Well, we experienced their spice journey and we are glad that we didn't purchase a return ticket. Stop the charabang, we want to get off!
The Onion Bhaji's 2/5 were poor; they were non-spicy and doughy. Maybe they buy them from the same place as Agra 3? - see last weeks review. The Chicken Chaat 4/5 impressed Old IronGuts. The Seekh Kebab's 2/5 were small and non-spicy but did taste fresh and flavoursome.
The menu claims that the Yash Lamb Special is Chef's favourite dish - it certainly wasn't Old IronGuts', who scored it 2/5. The further he got in to the dish, the slower his pace. To me, the dish seemed to have a very heavy, cloying and overpowering flavour.
A Hot & Spicy Chicken Jalfrezi 3/5 was The Greyhounds dish of choice. The biggest criticism he levelled at the dish was the abundance of part cooked chilies. He would have preferred for them to have been fully cooked and integrated more in to the dish.
My Chicken Biryani (Madras hot sauce) 3/5 was thought to be the best dish of the evening and was at the higher end of that banding.
At £2.50 for a plain Naan, well for us, that's expensive. And don't get me started on how small they were. At Desi Roti, we can get 2 much bigger Naans for just 99p!
We've had bigger Chapattis!
A tastefully decorated restaurant with nice attentive, yet non-intrusive staff which generated a good atmosphere. The restaurant is quite small and filled very quickly, which helped contribute to the pleasant ambience.
The starters, breads and rice are all over priced. The portion sizes are a little on the light side and the Naans looked like child sized ones.
My final thoughts or annoyance with the place is… does it have to be so dark? I could barely read the menu! In fact, at one point, I had to use the torch function on my phone!
A lack of local competition through it being located out in the sticks is probably why it's thriving - rather than the quality (& quantity) of the food.
