"Found memories are now lost in the midst of time"
Date of Visit: 26/09/15

I believe our first ever visit to this place was about 1999. How things have changed. Back in the day, you could get a mountainful of Onion Bhajis for just 50p. In fact, and from memory, most of the starters were similarly priced back then. The mains, with the 3 chapattis included were only about 3 to 3 1/2 quid. Even back in those halcyon days, what was formerly known as the Karachi Social Club was probably already on a slippery slope. In 1998 the Bradford Curry Guide rated the Karachi as a four star establishment. This recommendation by the BCG was the reason for us making the journey to Bradford and the "promised land". Two further visits in 1999 and 2000 by the BCG saw the Karachi slip to a three star establishment. A final visit in 2001 saw the BCG award the restaurant a two star rating.

Then, in 2002, Rick Stein pays the Karachi a visit in order to include the Karachi in his Food Heroes show.
Since then, I've revisited sporadically and the place just isn't what it used to be.
On this particular visit today, the whole experience was a disaster.
The food was poor.
It is no longer (and hasn't been for a long time) cheap.
The service was poor.
Patronage is abysmal, there was just one other couple in whilst we dined.
There is no atmosphere.
It now looks even grubbier.
They tried to overcharge us by about £6

Maybe they surfed the crest of the Rick Stein wave for a number of years? They've certainly taken their foot off of the gas pedal… this place is now as flat as a millpond.

I did read another review, which stated that the Chef of about the time of the Rick Stein visit left shortly afterwards.

I had a Mixed Starter and Chicken Saag with 3 Chapattis. It was all poor.

Sadly, we no longer recommend this restaurant to you.

Awarded May 2015
